The goal with this chair was to make a durable, lightweight piece of furniture that is a pleasure to sit on and easy to move around for flexible use in the home. The Shakers thought similarly when they designed furniture. The composite construction incorporates wood with Kevlar fiber, an advanced material typically employed in aerospace, high performance sporting goods and bullet-proof vests. The design of the chair takes cues from traditional wood snowshoe construction, hence the name. This prototype will undergo further development over the course of the next year before production begins. We have contacted The Office for Economic Development of the Cree Nation in Quebec in the hopes that a native-owned and operated company will produce the chair.
